“I Had A Midlife Crisis and Came Back To My Wife”

The almost balding man looked at me funny as I waved at the familiar face next to him.

Without even thinking, I went over to the familiar face, a man I had not seen in almost 6 months, and gave him a huge hug! We laughed and talked for just a bit before I moved on to catch up with friends sitting in the booth behind him.

Later, I got up to go to the bathroom, and on my return back, that balding man stood up quickly and stood in front of me and said, “Do you remember me?”

Startled, I smiled and said, “Maybe…? You have a familiar face, but I don’t know why?”

He laughed and said, “I met you three years ago in this same restaurant upstairs.”

Before I could even ask what he was talking about, he quickly said, “You yelled at me because I told you I was divorcing my wife. I think I had a midlife crisis.”

Not knowing if this would be a positive conversation or a negative conversation, I smiled and simply said, “Yes! That sounds like something I would do.”

He looked me dead in the eyes and said, “… and I’m still married, thanks to you.”

I know my face must have expressed complete and utter joy and satisfaction because I screamed out loud, “No way! I’m so proud of you!”

I remember speaking to a man in this bar who had told me he wanted to divorce his wife. He was pompous and kind of a dick. I told him the flat-out truth about divorce and his odds of success wandering the earth.

He had told me he had a couple of women in his life, and I reminded him that they would mean nothing compared to the 20+ years he’d already had with a good woman who produced all of his children.

He had rolled his eyes and told me how mean and rude she was. In which case, I told him that he, too, probably was an asshole sometimes, and what did he think it was like for her to have to deal with him all these years?

I remember that statement caused him to pause. I thought that was a win for the wife. Who I didn’t even know. I probably would never meet. But as women, I am a woman who plays for the woman team, not the one that belittles men and makes them feel small, but the one that cheers on other women who are dedicated to their husbands and their families.

Do you know many women like that?

Think about it.

How many women can you count on one hand who are phenomenal partners? Who never dog on their husband? Who go out of their way to make sure their husband knows he is loved and cared for?

Those are the women I like to keep as my friends. Because they are good graces in their own marriage and family, they rub off on me as I rub off on them.

One bad egg spoils the whole bunch.

Don’t be a bad egg.

Be the giver, don’t say mean things about your husband, and treat him exactly how you would want him to treat you if you were in his shoes.

My biggest goal on this planet is to help people see where they can grow to be a better person and reflect back on their spouses and kids.

Now, if we all do the same, what an incredible world in which we would live.
