He Wants To Leave Me

He says he wants to leave.  And yet he shares this bad news and turns and walks up to your bed.

Of course you are confused. Yet he seems comfy now that he dumped his mental disaster idea on you.

Only now in bed he turns his back to you or even tells you not to touch him.

What the heck is that? What is he doing? How do you even respond to that behavior.

This is what I dealt with in 2011 and 2012. Seven months into my separation, a book showed up at my door.

I opened the Amazon box, read the title, “Broken Heart on Hold,” and felt my stomach turn.

Did I have a broken heart? No.
Was I on hold? No.

I refused to believe either of those things. So I did what any woman in survival mode does, I threw that book in a drawer and slammed it shut.

That drawer became my hiding place for everything I could not face. Because the only two things on my mind were getting my prodigal midlife crisis husband home and keeping myself okay enough to take care of three kids who did not want or ask for their dad to move out of the family home.

Yet a broken heart? Put my broken hearts on hold? Nope! Into the drawer they went.

Every now and then I would open that drawer and see the book sitting there. Almost like a little nudge from God saying, “Hello? I am still here.” I would roll my eyes and slam it shut again.

Then my husband finally came home.

We reconciled as best you can in the beginning. Things were calmer, but not completely normal. We shared a bed again. We did stuff together, even laughed sometimes. But I could feel he was not fully back. Part of him was still wandering, still searching for something to make him feel young and alive again. And I, terrified of losing him again, was looking the other way.

That is when the book peeked out of the drawer again.

This time I grabbed it like a life preserver.

I took it to the gym because I could not read this kind of thing at home. And page after page I fed my soul something it had been starving for.

The book weaves in prayers and Bible verses throughout. Whether you are a woman of deep faith or no faith at all, do not let that stop you. They are woven in beautifully and add to the story rather than distract from it.

I now recommend Broken Heart on Hold with complete conviction. It is honest, real and written straight from the heart. I wish I had read it sooner.

But I was not ready sooner.

God has a way of getting the right things to you at exactly the right moment.

Trust that you are going to be okay. Trust that God will be with you on this journey. Like a little lamb that has lost it’s way.Believe that.
